OUTSpoken! Spoken Word for LGBTQIA+ Teens & Allies In-Person

For LGBTQIA+ teens and allies in grades 6-12.

Welcome Telling Room Teaching Artist and poet Jack Gendron (he/she/they) for a series of writing and performance workshops. Develop, practice, and perform a spoken word piece. Teens can perform an original or non-original work solo, in pairs, or in groups.

Workshops on Thursday May 15, 22, & 29. Help us celebrate Pride month with a poetry slam on Thursday, June 12. All are welcome!

Telling Room teaching artist Jack Gendron (he/they/she) grew up in South Portland and served as Preble Street's volunteer program manager before joining the Telling Room. Jack holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Syracuse and is the author of two poetry collections; their work has appeared in Tin House, Fence, The PEN Poetry Series, and elsewhere (mostly elsewhere). Jack enjoys the smell of almost all baked goods, the look of a dog wearing sunglasses, and the audible gasp of a net when a basketball passes through it.
