Should I Get Screened for Lung Cancer? (Maybe.)

Getting screened for lung cancer is not something most of us want to think about, but getting screened could save a life, even without any warning signs of the disease. Catching it early is key. For smokers, past and present, and for those who have lived with (or loved) someone who has smoked.

Retired lung surgeon Gary Keller, MD, PhD, gives an overview of the importance and effectiveness of lung cancer screenings, how lung cancer screening programs work, and some of the common misconceptions about screenings.

Gary Keller MD PHD is a retired lung surgeon who practiced for more than 30 years at Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he served as the head of the thoracic surgery section and established the EMMC Lung Cancer Screening Program. He lives in North Yarmouth.
