History of Quilts and Quilting In-Person
At 1 p.m.:
Vintage Quilt Show and Tell
All are welcome to hear about and admire the antique quilts from people in our community. If you have a quilt (made before 1950) that you would like to show-and-tell, bring it with you and tell us what you know about its history and making. (Don't worry. It's a casual thing. The more, the merrier).
For those who do have a quilt to talk about, please register below so that we know how many to expect. You do not otherwise need to register for this free event.
At 2 p.m.:
The Hidden History of Quilts with Kathy Kenny
Kathy Kenny will present a bit of quilt history from a woman's perspective. Vintage antique quilts from her collection will be shown during the lecture while presenting the context of the historical situations that created those quilts. The presentation will provide you with an eye-opening glimpse at an impressive history of the craft of quilting and an understanding of what makes a quilt and why we treasure them.
Kathy Kenny has more than 20 years of experience as a quilt historian and lecturer and more than 40 years of experience as a quilt teacher, collector and textile store owner. She enjoys sharing her quilt history knowledge to enlighten and educate various audiences.
Community quilts from Cumberland and North Yarmouth will be on display, as well as an exhibit of the contemporary quilts of the local Calico Quilters. All are welcome.
This event is offered in partnership with the North Yarmouth Historical Society and the Cumberland Historical Society.
