Why Can't We Quit the Apocalypse?

Why Can't We Quit the Apocalypse?

Why do apocalyptic stories endure so consistently across cultures? What do they say about our belief in humanity? What we can hope to learn from them?

Author Brandon Ying Kit Boey will lead a discussion on the impact of end-of-the-world prophecies — both religious and scientific — on individual choices, and whether collective beliefs and individual karma can be reconciled.

Brandon Ying Kit Boey is a novelist and poet (and lawyer) whose work has been described as literary and atmospheric, often drawing from Asian cosmology and lore.

Themes of time and space and the malleability of both feature prominently in his work, as he attempts always “to build a bridge” that can seemingly never be, over an expanse that might otherwise never be crossed.

His poems have been published in literary journals and anthologies, and he is also a writer of plays and short stories. Karma of the Sun is his first novel. When not at work on his next book, he can be found wandering his backyard woods in Falmouth or the shelves of his library.
