Author Talk with Clif Travers: The Stones of Riverton

The Stones of Riverton is a collection of linked short stories and novelettes inspired by the gravestones in a small Maine town. The stories are bound together by place and ancestry spanning over 200 years. They un-bury an often shameful history of unexplained deaths and deeply held secrets in a town that is divided both economically and culturally. While fictional, the stories are grounded in the lore, rumors, and fables that were told to the author by parents, grandparents, and local storytellers.

Clif Travers is a visual artist and writer living in Portland, Maine. He did his graduate work in painting at the Massachusetts College of Art, and received his MFA in creative writing from Stonecoast. His interactive sculptures and paintings have been shown throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, Peru, Italy, and Cuba. His writing has appeared in Dime Show Review, Underwood Press, Crack the Spine Anthology, The Bell Coffin Journal, and Maine Character Energy, a charity anthology. His collection of linked short fiction, The Stones of Riverton, was published by Down East Books in 2023. His next project, Three Men, Two Dogs, and a Grave, will be published in 2025.

Clif and his dog Ollie split their time between Portland and a cabin in the northern woods of Maine.
