Banned Books Readathon
Commemorate Banned Books Week (September 22–28)) with Prince Memorial Library's second annual Banned Books Readathon! Throughout the day, community members will be reading from a selection of banned or frequently challenged picture books and middle-grade books chosen by PML librarians. Drop in to listen. Leave when you need to. It's a casual, and, we hope, entertaining (and maybe even bittersweet) good time.
Can't make it in person? Tune in to the live-stream via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82994095702?pwd=yH4PLTtGO6KXzYacPA4zZsLIa3VLmS.1
About Banned Books Week
Banned Books Week’s objective is to raise awareness regarding the censorship of books in the country. According to the American Library Association, more than 11,300 books have been challenged since 1982.
Banned Books Week celebrates the freedom to read and spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.
