Mi'kmaq Storytelling with David Lone Bear Sanipass

Join us for an evening of Mi'kmaq storytelling for all ages. We will embark on a journey through time and culture as David Lone Bear shares ancient stories he learned from his elders, woven with experiences from his own life, and current events of today. At one time, the storyteller would travel from community to community to speak in the longhouse. The stories shared contained important information ranging from history, to lessons, to teachings, and entertainment. David Lone Bear has a way to pull you into the story so you are right there. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience a captivating cultural performance. Bring the whole family, and let the stories inspire you!

David Lone Bear is an artist and storyteller from the Mi’kmaq Nation. His early years were spent traveling between Elsipogtog First Nation Canada and Northern and Eastern Maine following the harvests. David’s parents were survivors of the Canadian Indian Residential Schools. David is a survivor of what has been referred to as the “Sixties Scoop.”

For over forty years, David has traveled across the United States and Canada sharing ancient stories and teachings from his heritage. He was asked by his elders to share these stories not only with his own nation, but all people of all nations of the world. He has spoken at schools, museums, and organizations across the United States, Canada, and England.

David is a juried artist in painting, photography, and jewelry, showing his work at local events as well as nationally including the Heard Museum and the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA). He is most notably known for his Traditional Mi’kmaq Northern Block Flutes with several belonging in the permanent collections of the Abbe Museum, Hudson Museum, and Maine Historical Society Museum.
