Olympians in Vacationland: An Author Talk with Todd Coffin

Olympians in Vacationland: An Author Talk with Todd Coffin In-Person / Online

In July 1972, 54 members of the US Olympic track & field team took center stage at Bowdoin College where they trained for 10 days before departing for the Munich Games. Fans streamed into Brunswick to collect autographs, take snapshots, and marvel at the athletes.

Olympians in Vacationland follows more than a decade of research and interviews to celebrate the accomplishments of the iconic athletes — Frank Shorter, Steve Prefontaine, Dave Wottle, and Rod Milburn — who helped inspire millions to take to the roads and track in pursuit of their own Olympic dreams.

Todd Coffin began running competitively at age 12. He was an All-American at Colby College and won the national steeplechase title in 1983. Following a masters in geology at Purdue University, Todd ran for Nike Team Texas and Nike Boston, and posted his personal-best marathon of 2:19.38 at the Houston-Tenneco Marathon in 1989. Todd was an assistant cross country coach at Bowdoin, and later returned to Colby as head coach of the men’s cross country and track & field teams from 2003 to 2006. He was inducted intothe Maine Running Hall of Fame in 2003 and serves on its board of directors. Todd consults on environmental matters across the US and abroad and lives in Freeport.
