Invasive Pests: A Threat to Forests in the Casco Bay Region Online
Invasive forest pests — including brown spruce longhorned beetle, Asian longhorned beetle, emerald ash borer, hemlock woolly adelgid, elongated hemlock scale, winter moth, and brown-tail moth — are invading and threatening the Casco Bay region. What are the best management practices to control them? Learn to identify the signs of infestation and how to mitigate the spread.
Allison Kanoti is the director of Forest Health and Monitoring for the Maine Forest Service. A graduate of the University of Maine with a Master of Science in Forestry, Allison has served in the Maine Forest Service for more than 16 years, first as a Forest Entomologist and for the last three years as director of Forest Health and Monitoring and State Entomologist. The forest health and monitoring team is charged with conducting statewide forest health surveys, providing technical advice and assistance to reduce damage from forest stressors, and completing the fieldwork for the annualized forest inventory.
