Roger McCord: Flight of the Phoebes — an Author Talk

Join author, photographer, and journalist Roger McCord as he talks about his new book, Flight of the Phoebes and the process of photographing the amazing family of birds that nested outside his home in Cumberland.

Flight of the Phoebes is a picture book, with dramatic photoimages, that follows a dad and his young daughter as they observe the 16-day nest-to-flight cycle of an Eastern phoebe brood. Maya and her dad forge a heart-warming alliance as they discuss life, nature, and the theme that “all birds leave the nest, and so do our curious children.”

Roger McCord, a career journalist, is an award-winning producer of “Chasing Maine” for themainemonitor.org. The video series has earned three New England Emmy nominations and multiple Maine Press Association honors. But he cites his most meaningful work as the 10 years spent as a stay-at-home dad in Cumberland.
